GrandRising | When Everything Becomes Mania

When the diagnosis becomes the lens, the person becomes difficult to see.

GrandRising | When Everything Becomes Mania

🖋️

There is something I didn't understand...

Until I wrote **Solar & System.**

I thought I was writing about a word.

Bipolar.

Two poles.

An imperfect word.

A restrictive word.

A word attempting to describe something far larger than itself.

I was.

But I was also writing about something else.

Something much more personal.

What happens...

When the word becomes the first thing people see?

Before the person.

Before the observation.

Before the explanation.

Before the question.

Before the possibility...

That something new might actually be learned.

Interesting.

Because once the diagnosis becomes the lens...

Everything begins looking like the diagnosis.

A new idea?

Mania.

A new conclusion?

Mania.

A sudden realization?

Mania.

A different perspective?

Mania.

Excitement?

Mania.

Confidence?

Mania.

Ambition?

Mania.

Writing too much?

Mania.

Writing something unusual?

Mania.

At peace?

Mania.

Not writing?

Interesting.

That can become evidence too.

Eventually...

I began noticing something deeply uncomfortable.

It wasn't merely that people disagreed with me.

They weren't necessarily encountering me at all.

They were encountering...

A hypothesis.

A diagnosis.

An expectation.

And then measuring everything I did against it.

That is different.

Very different.

Because if every observation is interpreted through the same conclusion...

What exactly could I ever do to falsify the conclusion?

If I am excited...

It confirms it.

If I am at peace with it...

Perhaps I'm masking it.

If I am productive...

It confirms it.

If I stop...

Perhaps that confirms something else.

If I speak passionately...

Evidence.

If I speak carefully...

Perhaps calculated.

If I question something...

Lack of insight.

If I disagree...

Denial.

If I accept criticism...

Insight.

If I reject an interpretation...

Still...

Lack of insight.

Bruh.

At some point...

The architecture becomes circular.

The conclusion interprets the evidence.

The evidence reinforces the conclusion.

And the conclusion...

Then becomes the justification for interpreting more evidence.

That is not observation.

That is a closed loop.

And I know...

Because I have spent years...

Trying to understand the difference.

There is something particularly strange about discovering that the person observing you...

May already have an explanation...

Before you have finished becoming whatever it is they're observing.

Imagine that.

You have a new thought.

Before you can ask yourself what it means...

Someone else has already decided it.

You discover something about yourself.

Before you can examine it...

It has already been categorized.

You create something.

Before anyone asks what it is...

Someone has decided why you created it.

You speak.

The diagnosis speaks louder.

You remain silent.

The diagnosis speaks for you.

You change your mind.

The diagnosis explains why.

You keep your mind.

The diagnosis explains why.

And slowly...

Something begins to disappear.

Not the cognition.

Not the person.

The space...

Between experience...

And interpretation.

The space where I should be allowed...

To encounter myself.

That space matters.

Because identity does not arrive fully assembled.

Sometimes...

We discover ourselves.

Sometimes...

We contradict ourselves.

Sometimes...

We learn something we didn't know yesterday.

Sometimes...

We realize that something we believed for years...

Was wrong.

Sometimes...

We become more precise.

Sometimes...

We become less certain.

Sometimes...

We simply become different.

That is not automatically pathology.

That is also being human.

And yet...

When every unfamiliar movement is immediately interpreted as illness...

How does a person learn who they are?

How does a person distinguish...

Growth...

From instability?

Insight...

From certainty?

Creativity...

From impulsivity?

Confidence...

From inflation?

Grief of a situation...

From depression?

Intensity...

From danger?

Restlessness...

From activation?

How?

You cannot answer those questions...

If the answer has already been selected.

And perhaps...

That is the part that hurt me most.

Not being diagnosed.

Not being observed.

Not even being wrong.

Being denied...

The opportunity...

To participate...

In the interpretation...

Of myself.

Because I can accept...

That I am not always the best observer of my own state.

Of course I can.

I am inside the system.

There are things another person may see...

That I cannot.

That is precisely why observation matters.

But observation...

Is supposed to add information.

Not erase the subject.

A clinician can say:

"I observe this."

A friend can say:

"I experienced this from you."

A researcher can say:

"This pattern appears repeatedly."

Those statements...

Can be valuable.

But there is another statement...

That becomes much more dangerous.

"You are this."

Because now...

The observation has crossed a boundary.

It has stopped describing behavior.

It has begun claiming ownership...

Over identity.

Of selfhood.

And there...

We return...

To the Sun.

The person.

The Human.

The experiencing subject...

Who still exists...

Before the interpretation arrives.

I am not asking...

To become immune...

From observation.

I am asking...

To remain present...

Inside it.

There is a difference.

I do not need everyone...

To agree with my interpretation of myself.

I don't even need to be correct...

Every time.

What I need...

Is the ability...

To remain a participant...

In the process...

Of knowing who I am.

Because if every encounter...

Is immediately confiscated...

And returned to me...

With someone else's explanation attached...

Then eventually...

I stop knowing.

I start performing...

The version of myself...

That I believe others...

Will permit me to be.

And that...

Would be another kind of Hell.

Not the Hell...

Of having a diagnosis.

The Hell...

Of no longer knowing...

Which parts of yourself...

Are actually yours...

And which parts...

Were installed...

By everyone who kept telling you...

What you were.

Interesting.

Perhaps that is the real danger...

Of allowing a word...

To become larger...

Than the person in the room.

The person begins living...

According to the description.

Not because the description...

Was necessarily false.

Because it became...

Too powerful...

To permit anything else...

To be true.

I don't want that.

I want observation.

I want evidence.

I want correction...

When correction is warranted.

I want accountability.

I want medicine...

When medicine is necessary.

I want other human beings...

To show me an accorate reflection of who I am.

In physics when a ball is thrown to hit a wall..

It is called,

reflection.

Funny thing is physics won't lie.

The science won't lie, but people do, will, have.

And suddenly it—

Becomes a huge misjustice,

to reflect anything falsely.

More so a human life.

I want to remain...

The person...

Who gets to ask:

**"Is that what happened?"**

**"Is that what you actually observed?"**

**"What else could explain it?"**

**"What am I missing?"**

"What are you missing?"

**"What did I learn?"**

"What did you learn"

**"What did I misunderstand?"**

"What did you misunderstand?"

Those questions...

Are not rebellion.

They are participation.

And perhaps...

That is what I have been trying...

To protect...

All along.

Not my right...

To be unquestioned.

My right...

To remain...

A person...

While being questioned.

There is a profound difference.

Because I can be observed...

Without becoming an object.

I can be diagnosed...

Without becoming a diagnosis.

I can be corrected...

Without becoming incorrect.

I can be uncertain...

Without becoming incapable.

I can be ill...

Without ceasing...

To be human.

And I can learn...

Without every new thing I discover...

Being confiscated...

By the word...

That was supposed...

To help describe me.

So...

If you ask me...

Whether everything I experience...

Is mania...

My answer...

Is simple.

I don't know.

And neither do you...

Merely because...

You have a word for it.

That...

Is not an insult...

To medicine.

It is a reminder...

Of the limits...

Of language.

The limits of words.

The diagnosis...

Does not terminate observation.

It begins...

Another kind of observation.

And perhaps...

The most important question...

Is not:

**"Is this mania?"**

But...

**"What exactly is happening here?"**

Before the label.

Before the assumption.

Before the conclusion.

Before Hell...

Has finished speaking...

Let the Sun...

Be observed.

And participate in discovering what is actually true.
