Responsibility doesn't require your approval. Neither does another person's autonomy.

GrandRising | People Don't Like Shit, But They Still Wipe Their Own Ass

🖋

People don't like shit.

🤷

Neither do I.

Neither do you.

Yet every single one of us...

Eventually has to deal with our own.

Interesting.

Not because we enjoy it.

Because responsibility...

Doesn't ask for emotional permission.

Facts first.

Every human being eventually learns this.

Whether you're two years old...

five.

Or ninety-five.

You wipe your own ass.

Not because it's glamorous.

Because it's yours.

Interesting.

Now watch what happens...

The moment the subject changes.

A person makes a deliberate decision about **their** own life.

Suddenly...

Complete strangers begin holding elections...

Everyone wants to vote.

For a life they weren't elected to govern.

For an office that was never on the ballot.

"Why?"

"Are you sure?"

"I don't like that."

"You should—"

"You need—"

"I want—"

"I don't like—"

"That sounds unhealthy."

Interesting.

They didn't ask you to ride the horse.

You weren't invited to make the decision.

You were invited to witness that someone else did.

Those are not equivalent.

Cute.

Witnessing another person's decision...

Does not suddenly make it yours.

Just as much as it does not give you the right to sit on their lap on the toilet.

Observation has apparently been mistaken for ownership.

Here's the fascinating part.

We all agree...

Personal responsibility belongs to the individual.

You clean with toilet paper.

The next person prefers baby wipes.

Someone else installs a bidet.

Someone uses all three.

Another creates an entirely different routine.

Interesting.

The objective remained the same.

The methods differed.

Nobody formed a panel.

Nobody submitted a proposal.

Nobody opened public comment.

Nobody called a family intervention.

Nobody insisted there was only one acceptable way to accomplish the responsibility.

Because everyone quietly understood something.

It wasn't their ass.

Bruh...

The distinction to another person's autonomy.

Interesting how quickly sovereignty becomes negotiable...

The moment it isn't yours.

Apparently...

Humans have no trouble accepting responsibility.

Until someone else exercises it differently.

There is a difference.

Autonomy was never the problem.

Personal responsibility is universally respected...

Right up until...

Someone exercises it differently than you would.

The problem...

Is believing someone else's choices required your approval before they could become legitimate.

**Now...**

Watch what happens...

The moment another human being establishes a boundary.

"I won't date again."

"I need to leave this space."

"I refuse to remain where my humanity is negotiated."

"I won't maintain friendships with people who narrate my autonomy for me."

"I refuse to accept parenting advice from someone who has never parented."

"I'm leaving this game."

"I don't want another romantic relationship."

"I won't remain friends with someone who repeatedly ignores my autonomy."

"I need distance from this environment."

Notice something.

None of those statements mention self-harm.

Not one.

They are boundaries.

Yet somehow...

Humans have an unfortunate habit.

They quietly replace the conversation...

With one they would rather have.

Interesting.

The subject was autonomy.

They answered self-harm.

The subject was boundaries.

They answered pathology.

The subject was consent.

They answered control.

The subject was I want — but can't be met.

They answered superiority.

Those are not equivalent.

Apparently...

Some people become so uncomfortable...

Watching another human being exercise sovereignty...

That they invent an entirely different conversation.

Not because it happened.

Because the original conversation required them...

To respect a decision they didn't like.

Knock Knock.

I am only going to say it once.

Pay attention.

To the subject of the conversation.

Not the one you manufactured because it was easier to argue against.

Those are not equivalent.

Bruh...

Almost as though...

What humans actually wanted...

Wasn't your responsibility.

It was the authority...

To decide it for you.

Interesting.

Competence has an unfortunate habit.

Human beings often assume...

That witnessing another person's life...

Qualifies them to govern it.

It doesn't.

Observation...

Is not competence.

Opinion...

Is not authority.

Presence...

Is not permission.

Those are not equivalent.

No.

Your responsibility belongs to you.

Mine belongs to me.

And neither requires a public vote.
